Davie Earl Pates, 58 years of age, of Rosedale, Mississippi, passed away on December 7, 2024,
at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Davie was born on August 12, 1966, to Thelma Pates-Gibson from Scott, Mississippi, and
Robert Lee “Sonny” Gibson (Deceased) of West Point, Mississippi. Davie graduated from
Rosedale High School in 1985. He specialized in the operation of heavy machinery, farm work
and truck driver. After Davie accident while driving trucks, his health constantly declined ever
since.
He is survived by his spouse, Lakendra Pates of Benoit, Mississippi and five stepchildren, Kierra
Hicks, Shar’va Hicks, T’kyra Hicks, Kenyatta Spivey, and Tyesha Spivey.
He is survived by his children: Darryl Pates, Rosedale, MS; Ventaris King of Dallas, Texas;
Davion King of Memphis, TN; Davisha King of Cleveland, MS; Davie Lee Pates Jr., of
Indianapolis, IN; Tywon (Allisha) Nix of Horn Lake, MS; Nya Jackson of Rosedale, MS.
He is survived by his siblings: Kenny (Phylis) Pates of Memphis, TN; Robert (Jackie) Pates of
Rosedale, MS; Eddie (Audrey) Gibson Sr of Cordova, TN; James Gibson of Boston, MA;
Anthony (Bridget) Gibson of Brandon, MS; Sharron Gibson of Rosedale, MS; Jenny Smith of
Greenville, MS; Roosevelt Hardy of Waterloo, IA; Special brother, Simon (Yashonda) Bush of
Rosedale, MS; and two special sisters; Tyronica Johnson of Beulah, MS and Linda (Melvin)
Myers of Springfield, Missouri.
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, family and friends who
will always love him dearly.
Davie was preceded in death by family members on father side: Great grandparents, Frank Ross
and Nancy Calhoun; grandfather, Jim Gibson of West Point, Mississippi. Father, Robert Lee
Gibson, was raised by his aunt and uncle Rufus (Daisy) Nichols, also is from the community of
West Point, Mississippi. Davie was thankful for his special father, James Malone Jr., that raised
and taught him the values of life.

Sr; grandparents, Aaron (Rosie Lee) Pates Sr.; Aunt, Charlie Mae (Roosevelt Sr.) Hunter;
Uncles, Nathaniel Pates of Rosedale, Mississippi, Aaron Pates of Cleveland, Mississippi, and
Alvin Daniels of Merigold, Mississippi. Sisters, Mildred Pates and Rosie Mae Fortney from
Rosedale, Mississippi).
