Emma L. Singletary-Carmichel, age 76 of Shelby, MS entered her eternal rest on August 15, 2025. A beloved
mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Emma’s life was a blessing to all who knew her. Born to Frank
and Addie Bea Singletary on July 29, 1949, in Hushpuckena, MS., Emma grew on to be a woman full of life,
laughter, and love.
Emma confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Macedonia M.B.
Church of Shelby, MS under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Young. Later through the years, she moved her
membership to Community Chapel Assembly of God of Shelby, MS currently under the leadership of Pastor
Curtis E. Hooper and Co-Pastor Ruthie Hooper. There she remained a faithful member until her health failed.
Emma L. Singletary-Carmichel and Fred Carmichel Sr. were joined in holy matrimony in 1971. From their union
a handsome son was born. In later years, Emma gave birth to a beautiful daughter. Emma took great pride and
joy in both of her children. Emma loved to sing, cook, and shop. Her quick wit and caring heart left lasting
impressions wherever she went.
Emma attended I. T. Montgomery Elementary of Mound Bayou Public School District 06. She later moved to
Shelby and graduated from Broad Street High School. From early years, Emma’s faith was the foundation of
her life. She served the Lord faithfully and encouraged others to do the same. Her legacy of service extended
into the community as a successful licensed insurance agent and visionary and CEO of It’s A Blessing Elderly
Care. As an insurance agent, Emma’s hard work and determination was rewarded with trips around the world
and more. But for Emma, it was not about the accolades, it was about making families feel secure and
protected. As the CEO and operator of It’s A Blessing, Emma dedicated her time to providing compassion and
care for others. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to connect with people left a lasting impact that
many came to see her as a trusted friend and family.
