James Ellis Brown was born on September 17, 1957, Cleveland, MS to the late Mr.
Willie Brown and the late Mrs. Willia Mae Dean Brown. James, better known as (Pep)
transitioned from his earthly home to his Eternal Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Charles Brown, Edgar Brown, two sisters,
Mother Annie P. Brown William, Clementine Jackson, two nephews, Albert Charles Brown, Jr.,
Bishop Leonard C. Brown, and one niece Reba L. Brown.
James confessed hope at an early age and joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
under the leadership of Reverend Ludi Williams. After relocating to Jackson, MS, he regularly
attended Pearl Street AME Church. James is a graduate of the Mighty East Side High School
Class of 1976. He was employed at Douglas & Lumbas in Cleveland, MS until he relocated to
Jackson, MS where he was employed with McCarty-Holman Company. He dedicated the last 21
years of his life to the Hinds County Public Works Department as a crew member and leader.
James (Pep) possessed a loving, warm, and kind spirit which will be deeply missed. He
leaves to cherish his loving memories, a loving companion of 25 years Blonde Travis, two
daughters, Celeste Richardson, Lillian Whitney Richardson, and one grandson, Thomas Rogers
III; three sisters Dr. Doris Brown Mitchell, Bobbye Jean (Elbert) Scott, all of Cleveland, MS;
Lure Dean Brown Berry (Daryl) and one brother Herman (Julia) Brown all of Jackson, MS, one
uncle Arthur Dean of Chicago, Ill and one aunt Emma Dean Richards of Jackson, MS, and a host
of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
