Joe Curtiss Moton was born May 23, 1951, to the union of the late Frank and Mattie Moton of
Hollandale, MS. He accepted Christ at an early age when he joined New Foundation Missionary
Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T. R. Clay. While stationed in Ft. Polk, LA, he was a
member of New Willow Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Harrison
Fields. Upon his retirement, he rejoined New Foundation M.B. Church under the leadership of
Pastor Willie Cotton and Pastor Carl Dorsey. Later he moved his membership to the Mt. Olive
M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Williams until God called him to rest on
Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 10:24 p.m.
Mr. Moton was a proud member of Simmons High School Class of 1972, the home of The
Almighty Blue Devils where he played football, basketball and ran track. He started his career
by enlisting in the Army, where he served 21 years. After retiring in 1994, he furthered his
education at MDCC and received certifications in welding and air conditioning. He began to
work for Clever Brooks until it closed. For 15 years, he worked for MDOT, retiring as the first
black supervisor of Washington County on February 28, 2015.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mattie Moton, siblings, Betty, Frank Jr., Jerry
Dean, Dennis and Minnie, daughter, Anginette Goodson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 43 years Dianne Moton and 5 children:
Orlando Causey of Hollandale, MS, Paul (Ashley) Moton of Tupelo, MS, Olivia (Wade) Shepard,
of Cleveland, MS, CeCelia (Maurice) Minor, Hollandale, MS, and Shelia Moton of Olive Branch,
MS; 1 brother George Moton of Seattle, Washington and 1 sister Clementine Smiley of Dalton,
Illinois; 7 Grandchildren-Gabriel, Antoine, Abagail, Jeremiah, Caylee Jo, Paisley and Scarlett.
A host of Sister-n-laws, Brother-n-laws, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
