Remembering Kishia

Kishia LaToya Elishia Mallett-Thompson was born October 22, 1977, in Mound Bayou, MS to Vernell Smith, Jr. and Lizzie Mallett.


Kishia accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Walk of Faith Covenant Church under the pastorate of Pastor Daryl Johnson. She was a devoted member of The House of Prayer Non-Denominational Church under the leadership of Pastor Carl E. Henry.


Kishia attended John F. Kennedy High School as a member of the mighty Class of 1997. Upon graduating high school, Kishia continued her education at Rust College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and became an illustrious woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Kishia later earned her Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Before retiring, Kishia was a hardworking-dedicated employee of Philips Lighting. She served her community as an active member of the Alpha Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in DeSoto County, MS.


Kishia entered holy matrimony with the love of her life, Alakashea Thompson, on February 22, 2022.


Kishia departed her earthly life on February 19, 2024, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elijah and Eliza Mallett; her paternal great grandparents Willie and Elnora Collier; her uncle, Percy Wright and aunt, Jeannie Wright.


Kishia leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Alakashea Thompson; mother, Lizzie Mallett of Ridgeland, MS; father, Vernell Smith, Jr. and Gloria Smith of Shelby, MS; paternal grandparents, Vernell Smith, Sr and Fannie Smith of Renova, MS; siblings, Jeworski and LaShondra Mallett of Ridgeland, MS; Arielle Smith of Cleveland, MS; Marcus and LaDonne Sterling of Cleveland, MS; Omar Mallett of Bessemer, AL; LaShantel Hollingsworth of San Francisco, CA; and Arthur Lenard Griffin of Peoria, AZ; nieces: Ohmyza, Haley, and Natalie; one nephew, Colin; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
