Lemar Smith was the fourth of six children born to the late George and Dessie Nick Smith on
August 21, 1951. Lemar confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Old St.
Philip M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. R. Skipper. He dedicated his life as a
deacon at New Bethel M.B. Church under Clarence Hunt from 1995 to 2005. He later changed
his membership to Old St. Phillip M.B. Church on August 6, 2006 and served diligently as a 
deacon until he transitioned to be with the Lord.

Lemar Smith received his early education at I.T. Montgomery in Mound Bayou, MS, H.M.
Nailor of Cleveland, MS and was a very proud member of East Side High Trojan of Cleveland,
MS. He graduated in the class of 1972. From 1974 to 1977, he studied at East LA College in
California. In 1981, he received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Electric at Mississippi Valley 
State University.

His working career began at Baxter Laboratories and E-TV network and climaxed with his
retirement at Baxter Laboratory here in Cleveland, MS as a Maintenance Mechanic in 2015.

On August 21, 2023, the Angel of the Lord called Lemar home to his heavenly resting place.
Lemar was preceded in death by his mother, Dessie Nick Smith; brother, Alexander
“Blacksmith” Smith; and granddaughter, Gabriella Smith.

He leaves to cherish the memories of a life well spent, his daughter Chaka Smith of Cleveland,
MS; his sons, Terrance (Gwendolyn) Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; Omar Smith of Dallas Texas
and Joshua Smith of Cleveland, MS; his grandchildren: Terrance Smith, Jr. And Tia Smith of
Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, George (Barbara) Smith of Pomona, CA, Herman (….) Smith of
St. Louis, MS, Gordon Smith of Orlando, FL; and sister, Betty Blevins of St. Louis, MO and
myriad of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
