Robert Jones Obituary

For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. (Romans 14:8)

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Robert Lewis “Big Boy, Poon” Jones. Robert was born on today June 8, 1959. Robert was the eleventh child out of fourteen born to J.W. and Alma Jones. On Saturday, June 1, Robert’s time on earth had come to an end. A chapter ended, and a new one had begun. Robert fought until the end never complaining. He finished his course and accepted the will of his Maker and Creator.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. (1Thessalonians 4:14)

Robert was a funny, happy, and loving person. He was educated in the Cleveland School District. He left high school early and began his college studies at Coahoma Community College. He received his certificate and continued his studies at Tougaloo College. Robert began his employment by working for Crockett Grocery. His next position was with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Viking, and Walmart. Later, he worked for the city of Cleveland.

Robert believed that Jesus was the Son of God. He loved God and knew that a relationship with God was the only thing that mattered. Robert

loved God, his family, and people in general. He was a provider and protector of his family.

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22)

Robert was blessed to find the love of his life in the form of Sherryette Hawkins. They lived in marriage for over 35 years. Their union was blessed with three children, one son and two daughters.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. (2 Timothy 4:6)

Robert leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife Sherry, his son Zykelyus (Panolia) Hawkins, his daughters Markedia (Gregory) Patrick and Quardricka (Kendrick) Garner, his siblings J.W. Jones Jr., Dorothy Marshall, Cynthia Crockett, Vera Richardson, Richard (Patricia) Jones, Jacquelyn (J.B.) Hampton, and Linda Jones. His legacy will continue through eighteen grands, eight great-grandchildren, plenty of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. (Isaiah 12:2)

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Alma Jones; his sisters Vamper Figures, Bernice Jones, Rachel Harper, and Margaree

Jones; and his brothers Danny Jones and Gregory Jones.
