Robert Earl Smiley, affectionately known as “Good Time” and “Smiley,” was born May 14,1961, to the late Eliza Smiley (Charlie Smiley Sr.) and McKinley Fields Sr in Shaw, MS. He graduated from East Side High School where he was a varsity football player and went on to attend Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS and Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, WI. He accepted Christ at White Plain Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C. B Jordan in Hushpuckena, MS. Robert was married to the late Emma Brown-Smiley and was blessed with two daughters from their union. He was a long-time Producers Rice Mill employee before working for the City of Shelby. Robert worked at the Isle of Capri Casino until he retired.
After retirement, Robert pursued an entrepreneurship journey. He became the owner of several businesses and was an endowed member of Masonic Lodge AJ Morgan #20 of Shelby, MS. A faithful giver and lender, you could always count on him to be there for you during your time of need. This allowed him to become a well-known figure in the community. He enjoyed playing card games and craps and was always confident in his ability to win big. When he was not traveling or fishing, Robert was taking care of his family. He was a devout father and touched the lives of all who knew him. Robert never met a stranger.
Robert Smiley laid down his working tools on Saturday July 20, 2024, at his home in Friars Point, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents Eliza Smiley (Charlie Smiley Sr.) and McKinley Fields Sr, his wife Emma Smiley, three brothers; Charlie Smiley Jr, Billy Smiley Sr, and McKinley Fields Jr, two sisters; Marynell Colver and Christine Anderson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his life partner Stephanie Brown, his children, both biological and bonus: Shonnette and Alsueka Brown, Coletta, Coliscia, and Colea Webster, Shaquita Douglas, Camron and Rahnequa Brown, Lataryn Williams, Alicia Thomas, Sophia Townsend, Lashonda Cox, Nakevius Shannon, Chassidi and Clarence Parker, and Sylivar and Maia Morris, seven sisters; Lucy Smiley- Solomon, Barbara S. Wright, Queen Davis, Josephine Collins, Aardelia Hernes, and Sandie Fields Sanders, three brothers; James and Larry Smiley, and Leonard Fields, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
