-THE EARTHLY JOURNEY-
John 14:3 - And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where Iam, there ye may be also.
SHIRLEY, who resided in Biloxi, Mississippi, was born to Clem Gant and Cora Bell Turner Gant in Mound Bayou, Bolivar County, Mississippi. She was the fourth of thirteen children. Her parents, a brother (Melvin Gant), and a sister (Yvonne Gant Williams) preceded her.
SHIRLEY accepted the Lord as her Savior and attended Azion Missionary Baptist Church of Mound Bayou, and later St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Cleveland, Mississippi. She graduated from Mound Bayou High School in May, 1964 and attended Coahoma Junior College (now Coahoma Community College).
After college, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and remained there most of her adult life. Upon returning to this area, she served as an administrative assistant at I. T. Mongtomery Elementary School in Mound Bayou, worked in the fabric department of Walmart and a proof reader for the Mississippi Legislation branch in Jackson, and took great pride in her work as an alterationist for Dillard's in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was an independent lady, very immaculate, an expert seamstress, chef in culinary arts, liked the finest quality of things, and would turn a store upside down looking for a bargain.
SHIRLEY leaves a wealth of memories with her three sons, Marvin Pratt of Janesville, Wisconsin, Horace (Hiromi) Pratt of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Clarence Pratt of Madison, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lewrence Gant of Chicago, Illinois, L. C. (Brenda) Gant of Boyle, Mississippi, Van (Anzie) Gant of Hazelcrest, Illinois, and Roy Gant of San Diego, California; six sisters, Deborah Gant Walker of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, Lois Gant Toliver of Cleveland, Mississippi, Avis Gant (Elder Reaver) Bingham of Los Angeles, California, Selma Gant Brooks of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Sandra Gant of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Linda Gant (Ronnie) Gibson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Carrie Booth Gant of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
