Walter Williams Obituary

Walter Howard Williams was born December 23, 1947, in Beulah, MS to Myrtis Murry and John
Williams. Walter was the third oldest of 10 children. Walter was educated in the Rosedale school
system. Walter relocated to Chicago, IL in 1966 where he worked at International Paper for 30 years and
ministered at Old Way Missionary Baptist Church. Walter had his eye on the west coast so in 1999 he
moved to Los Angeles, CA. It was there 14 years later he married his beloved wife, Mary. He became the
senior pastor of Stranger Rest Baptist Church January 2002. Walter enjoyed riding horses and driving his
two Peter Built tractor trailers. Due to health issues Walter and his lovely wife Mary moved to Snellville,
GA.
During the early morning of August 31, 2023, while in his residence, God called Walter home. He was
preceded in death by his parents Myrtis Murry and John Williams, four sisters Rose Cunningham, Ella
Jackson, Laura Jackson and Doris Williams, two brothers Willie Cuningham and Frank Jackson.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife Mary, brothers Albert Jackson of Chicago Il,
Samuel Jackson of Washington DC and Alonzo (Annette) Cleveland MS; children Christina Evans and
Jaleel Williams of Chicago Il, Tina Smith (Frank) of Hayneville AL, Gary Gray and Jamie Gray of Snellville,
GA; Brother in laws Frank McQueen (Ned) of Hinesville GA, Steve McQueen (Regina) of Lithia Springs,
GA, James McQueen Jr. (Gloriann) of West Point, GA Willie James McQueen of West Point, GA, Samuel
Carter and Leverne Fleeton of Hope Hull, AL; Sister in laws Linda Gunsby (Charles) West Point, GA, Ann
Sand and Cheatricie McQueen of West Point, GA, Gail Hunter and Debra Rhode of Lagrange, GA, and
Carla Holloway of Tx; Special brother-in-law Pastor David Bowers. Grandchildren Neyonni Evans,
Pumpkin Gray, Marcus Smith, Jonas Gray, Frank Smith Jr, and Wisdom Gray, two great grandchildren,
nieces Sheila Robertson of Los Angeles CA, Gella and Jewel Robertson of Chicago, IL, nephews, special
great nephew Lee Dark (Woodah) of Los Angeles, CA friends and his McIntosh Lane family.
